How England performed
England began the 2018 Six Nations as defending champions and started well under head coach Eddie Jones and captain Dylan Hartley, winning 46–15 against Italy at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome and edging Wales 12–6 at Twickenham.
The championship then turned against them. Scotland won 25–13 at Murrayfield, France won 22–16 at the Stade de France, and the final round brought a 24–15 home defeat by Ireland at Twickenham. Three consecutive losses left England fifth with two wins and three defeats, having scored 102 points and conceded 92. It was a sharp fall from the title they had won in 2017, and after the 46-point haul in Rome they did not score more than 16 points in any of their remaining matches.
