England: Shared champions

How England performed

A year after the 1885 championship was not completed, England finished the 1886 Home Nations Championship as shared champions. They were unbeaten, with two wins and a draw from three matches.

The campaign opened at Rectory Field, Blackheath, on 2 January, where England beat Wales by a goal from a mark and two tries to a goal. In Dublin on 6 February they beat Ireland by a try to nil at Lansdowne Road, and their visit to Raeburn Place, Edinburgh, on 13 March ended in a 0–0 draw with Scotland. That unbeaten record earned England a share of the title.
