Six Nations Championship
England: Champions (Grand Slam)
How England performed
England won the 2016 Six Nations with a Grand Slam under head coach Eddie Jones and captain Dylan Hartley. The campaign opened with a 15–9 win over Scotland at Murrayfield, followed by a 40–9 victory over Italy at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
Back at Twickenham, England beat Ireland 21–10 and then edged Wales 25–21 in the tightest match of the championship. They completed the clean sweep in the final round with a 31–21 win over France at the Stade de France. Five wins from five, with 132 points scored and 70 conceded, delivered the title and the Grand Slam, a step up from 2015, when they had finished second. Two of the five victories, against Scotland and Wales, came by six points or fewer.
