So how does the home team get an advantage?

The climate for cricket in England is more humid than in Australia, with grounds possessing greener wickets that assist seam and swing bowling. England bowlers are far more used to such conditions and do not require adapting their bowling. Australian wickets tend to be harder and more bouncy, meaning their batsmen are far more used to high pace bowling and short pitched deliveries - whereas in England they are more likely to face bowlers aiming for a fuller length (to assist with seam swing bowling).

The home support in both nations both play a part in the series - with large and loud crowds creating a hostile or supportive environment for the players.

Home teams are obviously also more acclimated to the local weather. From the heat of Australia to the wetter English summers can take its toll on the visiting players, especially when they are not used to the stop-start pace of far more matches in England.
