How England performed
England began the 2021 Six Nations as defending champions but opened with an 11–6 home defeat by Scotland at Twickenham. Eddie Jones's side, captained by Owen Farrell, recovered to beat Italy 41–18 at the same ground before suffering their heaviest defeat of the championship in Cardiff, where Wales won 40–24 at the Millennium Stadium.
The best result came in the fourth round, a 23–20 win over France at Twickenham, but the campaign ended with a 32–18 defeat by Ireland at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Two wins and three defeats left England fifth, having scored 112 points and conceded 121. It was a sharp decline from 2020, when they had won the title and the Triple Crown, and all three defeats came by five points or more.
