England: Champions

How England performed

England won the 2011 Six Nations under head coach Martin Johnson and captain Mike Tindall. They opened with a 26–19 win over Wales at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, then ran up 59–13 against Italy at Twickenham. Home wins over France, 17–9, and Scotland, 22–16, followed, giving England four victories from four.

The final round at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin brought their only defeat, Ireland winning 24–8 to end hopes of a Grand Slam. Even so, four wins and one defeat, with 132 points scored and 81 conceded, were enough for the title, a marked improvement on third place in 2010. Away from the 59-point haul against Italy, England's victories were tight, with the wins over Wales, France and Scotland all coming by eight points or fewer.
