How England performed

With Don White as coach and Bob Hiller as captain, England finished fourth in 1970. The championship started well, with Ireland beaten 9–3 at Twickenham, London, but that proved to be the only win.

Wales won the next match at the same venue, England losing 13–17, and the away games brought heavier defeats: 5–14 to Scotland at Murrayfield, Edinburgh, and 13–35 to France at Stade Colombes, Paris. England finished with 40 points scored and 69 conceded.
