How England performed

A year after finishing second, England were champions in 1953, unbeaten in their four matches. They opened with an 8–3 win over Wales at Cardiff Arms Park, Cardiff, before a 9–9 draw with Ireland at Lansdowne Road, Dublin.

Both remaining games were at Twickenham, London, and England won them convincingly: 11–0 against France and 26–8 against Scotland. Three wins and a draw brought the title, with 54 points scored and only 20 conceded.
