How England performed

Points were scarce in 1959: England scored nine and conceded 11 in four matches, yet still finished second. The championship began with a 0–5 defeat by Wales at Cardiff Arms Park, Cardiff, and the only win followed at Lansdowne Road, Dublin, where Ireland were beaten 3–0.

England then drew both of their games at Twickenham, London, 3–3 against France and 3–3 against Scotland. One win, two draws and a defeat followed the title they had won in 1958.
