How England performed
Steve Borthwick's England, captained by Owen Farrell, opened the 2023 Six Nations with a 29–23 defeat by Scotland at Twickenham. They responded with a 31–14 win over Italy at the same ground and a 20–10 victory over Wales at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
The heaviest blow came in the fourth round, when France won 53–10 at Twickenham, and the campaign ended with a 29–16 defeat by Ireland at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Two wins and three defeats left England fourth, with 100 points scored and 135 conceded, 53 of them in the France match. It was one place lower than in 2022, when they had finished third with the same number of wins.
