How England performed

Defending champions England finished third in 1964, with John Willcox and Ron Jacobs both captaining the side during the championship. England drew 6–6 with Wales at Twickenham, London, but then lost 5–18 to Ireland at the same venue.

The only win came away, 6–3 against France at Stade Colombes, Paris, before a 6–15 defeat by Scotland at Murrayfield, Edinburgh, closed the campaign. England scored 23 points and conceded 42, the 13-point loss to Ireland the heaviest of their four games.
