How England performed
England began the 2026 Six Nations with a 48–7 win over Wales at Twickenham, Henry Arundell scoring three tries and Ben Earl, Tom Roebuck and Tommy Freeman also crossing. It proved to be their only victory. Scotland won 31–20 at Murrayfield, with Arundell and Earl scoring England's tries, and Ireland won 42–21 at Twickenham despite tries from Fraser Dingwall, Ollie Lawrence and Sam Underhill.
Steve Borthwick's side, captained by Maro Itoje, then lost 23–18 to Italy at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. The final round produced a 48–46 defeat by France at the Stade de France, England scoring seven tries, two of them by Ollie Chessum. One win and four defeats left England fifth, although they scored 153 points and conceded 151. It was a steep fall from second place in 2025.
