Six Nations Championship
England: Champions (Grand Slam)
How England performed
England won the 2003 Six Nations with a Grand Slam, taking all five matches under Clive Woodward, with Martin Johnson and Jonny Wilkinson sharing the captaincy. The campaign began with its tightest contest, a 25–17 win over France at Twickenham, and continued with a 26–9 victory over Wales at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
Back at Twickenham, Italy were beaten 40–5 and Scotland 40–9, before England travelled to Lansdowne Road for the final round on 30 March and beat Ireland 42–6 to complete the clean sweep. Across the championship they scored 173 points and conceded just 46, fewer than ten a match on average. It was an improvement on 2002, when a single defeat had left them second with the Triple Crown.
