How England performed

From shared champions in 1947, England fell to fifth in 1948 without a win. A 3–3 draw with Wales at Twickenham, London, on 17 January was followed by an 11–10 defeat by Ireland at the same ground on 14 February.

Scotland won 6–3 at Murrayfield, Edinburgh, on 20 March, and France 15–0 at Stade Colombes, Paris, nine days later. England scored 16 points and conceded 35, with the Ireland and Scotland matches lost by a combined four points.
