Six Nations Championship

How England performed
England opened the 2002 Six Nations with a 29–3 win over Scotland at Murrayfield and followed it by beating Ireland 45–11 at Twickenham. The key match came in the third round in Saint-Denis, where France won 20–15 at the Stade de France, England's only defeat of the campaign.
Clive Woodward's side, captained by Martin Johnson and Neil Back during the championship, responded with a 50–10 win over Wales at Twickenham and a 45–9 victory over Italy at the Stadio Flaminio in Rome. Four wins from five, with 184 points scored and only 53 conceded, earned the Triple Crown and second place, a step down from the title they had won in 2001. Outside the five-point defeat in Saint-Denis, every other match was won by at least 26 points.
