How England performed

England's 2005 Six Nations began with three narrow defeats. Wales won 11–9 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, France edged an 18–17 contest at Twickenham, and Ireland won 19–13 at Lansdowne Road, leaving Andy Robinson's side, captained by Jason Robinson and Martin Corry during the championship, without a win after three rounds. The combined margin of those defeats was just nine points.

England finished with two home wins, beating Italy 39–7 and Scotland 43–22 at Twickenham, and ended with 121 points scored and 77 conceded, a positive points difference despite the losing record. Two wins and three defeats left them fourth, one place lower than in 2004, and those two victories came by a combined 53 points.
