Six Nations Championship

How England performed

Under head coach Brian Ashton and captain Phil Vickery, England began the 2007 Six Nations with two home wins, beating Scotland 42–20 and Italy 20–7 at Twickenham. The third round brought a heavy defeat at Croke Park in Dublin, where Ireland won 43–13.

England responded with their best result of the championship, a 26–18 win over France at Twickenham, but the final round ended in a 27–18 defeat by Wales at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. Three wins and two defeats left them third, one place higher than in 2006, although their points difference was narrow, with 119 scored and 115 conceded. The 30-point loss in Dublin accounted for much of that, and all three of their wins came at Twickenham, while both defeats came on the road.
