England: Won 2–0

How England performed

England regained the Ashes in Australia in 1970–71, winning the series 2–0 without losing a Test. Seven Tests were scheduled, but the third, at Melbourne, was abandoned without a ball bowled, so England's record reads six played, two won and four drawn.

The first two Tests were drawn. At Brisbane England led on first innings with 464 to 433 and were 39 for 1 at the end, and at the WACA Ground, Perth, Australia finished on 100 for 3 after England declared their second innings on 287 for 6. The breakthrough came at Sydney, where England made 332 and 319 for 5 declared and dismissed Australia for 236 and 116 to win by 299 runs. Further draws followed at Melbourne and Adelaide, where England's 470 earned a first-innings lead of 235. The seventh Test, back at Sydney, sealed the series: England trailed 184 to 264 on first innings but made 302 second time round and bowled Australia out for 160 to win by 62 runs.
