The story so far

England and the Champions Trophy

England have never won the ICC Champions Trophy, but they have reached the final twice. Across the nine tournaments on our records, from the 1998 KnockOut Trophy in Bangladesh to 2025, they have won 14 of their 28 matches and lost the other 14.

The early editions were brief: quarter-final exits in Bangladesh in 1998, with David Lloyd as coach, and in Kenya in 2000, then a pool-stage exit in Sri Lanka in 2002. Duncan Fletcher's side went much further on home soil in 2004, reaching the final, before going out at the pool stage in India in 2006. Andy Flower's team reached the semi-finals in South Africa in 2009, and with Ashley Giles in charge England were runners-up again in 2013, when England and Wales were the hosts.

The 2017 tournament, also staged in England and Wales, ended in the semi-finals under Trevor Bayliss. The most recent edition was the leanest: in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates in 2025, Brendon McCullum's side lost all three of their pool matches. The next Champions Trophy is due to be played in India in 2029.
