England: Won 1–0

How England performed

Australia's visit in 1884 brought three Tests, and one win was enough for England to take the series 1–0. The opener in Manchester was drawn: England were bowled out for 95 in their first innings, trailed Australia's 182 and were 180 for nine in their second when the match ended.

The decisive result came at Lord's, London, where England made 379 and dismissed Australia for 229 and 145 to win by an innings and five runs. The final Test at The Oval, London was drawn after Australia piled up 551; England replied with 346 and were 85 for two in their second innings. The series win followed the 2–1 success of the previous Ashes.
