How England performed
Only two of the three scheduled Tests of 1890 were played, and England won both. At Lord's, London, a first-innings lead of 41 runs (173 to 132) set up a seven-wicket win, England reaching 137 for three after Australia's second-innings 176.
The Oval, London hosted a far tighter contest in which no innings passed 102. England led 100 to 92 on first innings, bowled Australia out for 102 and scraped home by two wickets at 95 for eight. The final Test in Manchester was abandoned without a ball bowled, leaving the series at 2–0.
