How England performed

The 1907–08 series opened with two close finishes. In Sydney, England made 273 and 300 but Australia reached 275 for eight to win by two wickets; in Melbourne it was England's turn, scraping home by one wicket at 282 for nine after making 382 in their first innings.

Australia controlled the rest of the series. In Adelaide, England led 363 to 285 on first innings, but Australia's second-innings 506 set up a 245-run win. A 308-run defeat followed in Melbourne, where England were bowled out for 105 and 186, and in the final Test in Sydney a first-innings lead, 281 to 137, was not enough: Australia made 422 second time round and won by 49 runs. Australia took the series 4–1.
