England and the Women's Ashes

England Women have contested 26 Women's Ashes series on our records, stretching back to 1934, and have won or retained the trophy ten times. Outright series wins came in 1934, 1963, 2005, 2007, 2013 and 2014, while drawn series in 1937, 1968, 1976 and 2009 left England holding the Ashes. The strongest era on the list ran from 2005 to 2014, when England won or kept the trophy in five of six series, the only defeat a single-match series in Australia in 2010. The 2013 and 2014 wins, by 12–4 and 10–8, were the first two series on our records decided on points under the multi-format system.

The lean spells have been long ones. Between 1984 and 2002 England went six series without winning: defeats in 1984, 1987, 1991, 2001 and 2002, plus a home series in 1998 in which all three matches were drawn and Australia kept the trophy. Earlier, the late 1940s and 1950s brought defeat in 1948 and drawn series in 1951 and 1957 that left Australia in possession, before England's 1–0 home win in 1963 and the retained Ashes of 1968 and 1976.

Australia have held the trophy since winning in England in 2015. England lost 4–12 at home in 2019 and 4–12 in Australia in 2021, and drew 8–8 in Australia in 2017 and at home in 2023, with Australia retaining on both occasions. The latest series, in Australia in 2024, ended in a 0–16 defeat on points, the most one-sided result of the points era on our records. That is six series without a win, matching the 1984–2002 run, and the task now is to win back a trophy England last won in 2014.
