How England performed

England's 1954–55 tour started badly: in Brisbane Australia declared at 601 for eight and won by an innings and 154 runs, England managing 190 and 257. The response was three straight wins. In Sydney, England trailed 154 to 228 on first innings but made 296 in their second and bowled Australia out for 184 to win by 38 runs; in Melbourne they recovered from another first-innings deficit, 191 to 231, and won by 128 runs after dismissing Australia for 111.

Adelaide brought a third successive victory, by five wickets, with Australia again bowled out for 111 and England reaching 97 for five. That secured the series, and the final Test in Sydney was drawn after England declared at 371 for seven and Australia, 221 in their first innings, finished on 118 for six. England won the series 3–1.
