How England performed
Defeat by 146 runs in the opening Test in Sydney, where Australia made 447 and 308, was the only setback of England's 1911–12 tour. They won the remaining four Tests to take the series 4–1.
In Melbourne, England led 265 to 184 on first innings and reached 219 for two to win by eight wickets. Adelaide followed: Australia were bowled out for 133, England made 501, and despite Australia's 476 in their second innings England reached 112 for three to win by seven wickets. The 4th Test, back in Melbourne, brought the widest margin of the series, England's 589 setting up victory by an innings and 225 runs, and the tour ended in Sydney with a 70-run win.
