How England performed
England were champions again in 1978–79, unbeaten with two wins and a draw, five goals scored and one conceded.
Watson and Coppell scored within three minutes of each other in a 2–0 win over Northern Ireland at Windsor Park, Belfast on 19 May 1979. A goalless draw with Wales followed at Wembley Stadium, London four days later. England then came from behind to beat Scotland 3–1 at the same venue on 26 May 1979, Wark putting the visitors ahead before Barnes, Coppell and Keegan replied.
