How England performed
England could not hold on to the title in 1975–76, finishing second after winning two of their three matches, with six goals scored and two conceded.
Taylor's goal gave England a 1–0 win over Wales at Ninian Park, Cardiff on 8 May 1976. Channon scored twice, once from the penalty spot, in a 4–0 win over Northern Ireland at Wembley Stadium, London three days later, with Francis and Pearson also scoring. At Hampden Park, Glasgow on 15 May 1976, Channon put England ahead, but they lost 2–1 to Scotland after goals from Masson and Dalglish.
