How England performed

England could not hold on to the title they had won the season before, finishing third in 1913–14. The campaign opened with a 3–0 home defeat by Ireland at Ayresome Park, Middlesbrough, Lacey scoring twice and Gillespie once.

A 2–0 win over Wales at Ninian Park, Cardiff, with goals from Smith and Wedlock, steadied things, but Scotland won 3–1 at Hampden Park, Glasgow, through Thomson, Reid and McMenemy, with Fleming scoring for England. One win and two defeats, with three goals scored and six conceded, left England third.
