How England performed
Having shared the title the previous season, England took the 1970–71 championship outright, unbeaten with two wins and a draw, four goals scored and one conceded.
Clarke scored ten minutes from time to secure a 1–0 win over Northern Ireland at Windsor Park, Belfast on 15 May 1971. A goalless draw with Wales followed at Wembley Stadium, London four days later. England then beat Scotland 3–1 at the same venue on 22 May 1971: Peters opened the scoring, Curran equalised two minutes later, and Chivers scored twice before half-time.
