How England performed

England were runners-up in 1921–22, one place better than the season before. They opened with a 1–1 draw against Ireland at Windsor Park, Belfast, Kirton cancelling out Gillespie's goal, and Kelly scored the only goal of a 1–0 win over Wales at Anfield, Liverpool.

Scotland then won 1–0 at Villa Park, Birmingham, through Wilson. A win, a draw and a defeat, with two goals scored and two conceded, left England second.
