The story so far

England and the Nations League

England have played in all four completed editions of the UEFA Nations League on our records without yet winning the competition. The high point came in the first edition, in 2018, when they reached the League A Finals and finished third, after a campaign of two wins, two draws and two defeats. In 2020 they finished third in League A Group 2 with three wins from six. Across the matches on our records Kane is comfortably the leading scorer with 13 goals, well clear of Gordon and Rashford on four apiece and Bellingham and Sterling on three.

The low point was the 2022 edition, when England failed to win any of their six matches in League A Group 3, drawing three and losing three, and finished fourth to be relegated from League A. The response was immediate. In 2024, playing in League B, they won Group 2 with five wins and only one defeat from six matches and were promoted straight back to the top tier, making the drop a single-edition absence from League A.

That promotion means England are back in League A for the 2026–27 edition, which began on 24 September 2026. The campaign is in progress and England currently sit second in League A Group 3. With no Nations League title yet to their name, their aim is to return to the Finals stage they reached in 2018 and go further than the third place they managed on that occasion.
