England: Shared champions
How England performed
England, the defending champions, shared the 1969–70 title, unbeaten with a win and two draws in April 1970, scoring four goals and conceding two.
Lee's 71st-minute goal earned a 1–1 draw with Wales at Ninian Park, Cardiff on 18 April 1970 after Krzywicki had put the hosts ahead. Three days later England beat Northern Ireland 3–1 at Wembley Stadium, London, with Peters, Hurst and R. Charlton scoring and Best replying. The season ended with a goalless draw against Scotland at Hampden Park, Glasgow on 25 April 1970.
