How England performed
England shared the 1885–86 championship after an unbeaten campaign of two wins and a draw, an improvement on second place in 1885. Spilsbury scored four goals in a 6–1 win over Ireland at Ballynafeigh Park, Belfast, with Lindley and Dewhurst also on target and Williams scoring for Ireland.
Lindley scored again at Hampden Park, Glasgow, where England drew 1–1 with Scotland, Somerville scoring for the Scots. Two days later England beat Wales 3–1 at the Racecourse Ground, Wrexham, through Brann, Dewhurst and Amos, with Lewis scoring for Wales. They finished with 10 goals scored and three conceded.
