How England performed
The Red Roses won the 2009 Women's Six Nations title, though without the Grand Slam they had taken in 2008. They opened with a 69–13 win over Italy at London Welsh, but the key match came a week later at Taff's Well, where Wales won 16–15 to inflict England's only defeat, by a single point.
England responded with a 29–13 victory over Ireland in Dublin and then dominated their final two home matches at London Welsh, beating France 52–7 and Scotland 72–3. Four wins and one defeat, with 237 points scored and 52 conceded, were enough for the championship. Outside the narrow loss to Wales, every match was won by at least 16 points.
