How England performed
The Red Roses began the 2004 Women's Six Nations as Grand Slam holders and opened with a 71–3 win over Spain in Zaragoza. A tighter contest followed at Netherdale in Galashiels, where they beat Scotland 20–7, before home victories over Ireland, 51–10 at Twickenham, and Wales, 53–3 at the Twickenham Stoop.
Those results brought the Triple Crown, but England's campaign also included one defeat, and they finished second rather than retaining the title. Their record read four wins and one defeat from five matches, with 207 points scored and 36 conceded, a strong return that still fell short of the clean sweep achieved in 2003. The win in Galashiels was the only one of their victories in which they scored fewer than 50 points.
