England: Winners

How England performed

The Lionesses qualified for the 2025 UEFA Women's Championship in Switzerland with three wins, two draws and a defeat from six fixtures. After a 2–1 home defeat by France they won the return 2–1 in France, and Russo was the leading scorer with three goals.

As holders from 2022, Sarina Wiegman's side, captained by Leah Williamson, lost their opening fixture 2–1 to France before beating the Netherlands 4–0, James scoring twice, and Wales 6–1. In the quarter-final against Sweden they trailed 2–0 until Bronze and Agyemang scored in the 79th and 81st minutes; the match finished 2–2 after extra time and England won the shoot-out 3–2. Agyemang's equaliser in the sixth minute of stoppage time forced extra time in the semi-final against Italy, and Kelly scored in the 119th minute for a 2–1 win. The final against Spain ended 1–1 after extra time, Russo equalising, and England won the penalty shoot-out 3–1 to retain the title they had won in 2022.
