England: Runners-up

How England performed

The Lionesses' qualifying campaign for the 1984 UEFA Women's Championship was perfect: six wins from six, 24 goals scored and one conceded. Davis scored 11 of them, including all four in a 4–0 win in Scotland, and the campaign closed with a 6–0 home win over the Republic of Ireland.

Under manager Martin Reagan, with Carol Thomas as captain, England's matches at the finals stage were played home and away. They beat Denmark 2–1 at home, Curl and Deighan scoring, and 1–0 away through Bampton to reach the final against Sweden. Sweden won the first leg 1–0, Curl's goal earned a 1–0 win in the second leg to level the tie, and the final was decided by a penalty shoot-out, which Sweden won 4–3. The Lionesses finished as runners-up with three wins and one defeat from four matches, four goals scored and two conceded, with Curl scoring in both home legs.
