England: Semi-finals
How England performed
The Lionesses qualified for the 2017 UEFA Women's Championship in the Netherlands unbeaten, winning seven of their eight fixtures and conceding only once while scoring 32. Carter scored hat-tricks in both games against Estonia, and Carney hit three in a 7–0 home win over Serbia.
At the finals, Mark Sampson's side, captained by Steph Houghton, won all three group fixtures. Taylor scored a hat-trick in a 6–0 win over Scotland and was on target again as Spain were beaten 2–0, before goals from Duggan and Parris secured a 2–1 win over Portugal. Taylor's goal then settled a 1–0 quarter-final victory over France. The run ended in the semi-final, where England lost 3–0 to the hosts, the Netherlands. Taylor finished with five goals, and four wins from five matches, with 11 goals scored and four conceded, was a significant improvement on the group-stage exit of 2013.
