How England performed

Charlotte Edwards led England's defence of the Women's World Cup title in India in 2013. The Group A campaign, played in Mumbai, began with a 1-wicket defeat by Sri Lanka, who passed England's 238/8 with their last pair together. England recovered to beat hosts India by 32 runs after making 272/8, and West Indies by 6 wickets after dismissing them for 101.

The Super Six stage opened with the narrowest of defeats: Australia were bowled out for 147, but England were dismissed for 145 and lost by 2 runs. A 7-wicket win over South Africa, who were bowled out for 77 in Cuttack, and a 15-run victory over New Zealand followed, yet England did not reach the final. Their tournament ended with a third-place play-off against New Zealand at the Brabourne Stadium, which England won by 4 wickets after New Zealand had made 220/8. England finished with five wins and two defeats from seven matches.
