How England performed
England Women were crowned champions of the 1973 Women's World Cup on home soil, winning five of their six group-stage matches. They opened at Hove by making 258/1 against an International XI and winning by 135 runs, then beat Jamaica by 63 runs in Bradford. Their only defeat came at Exmouth, where New Zealand won by 11 runs on a revised target after England had reached 34/1 from 15 overs in reply to 105/7.
England responded with a 49-run win over Young England at Ilford, again on a revised target, and an 8-wicket victory over Trinidad and Tobago in Wolverhampton after dismissing them for 59. The final group match, against Australia at Edgbaston, brought a commanding finish: England made 279/3 from their 60 overs and restricted Australia to 187/9, winning by 92 runs. With five wins and one defeat, England finished the tournament as winners.
