England: Group stage

How England performed

England's 2000 Women's World Cup in New Zealand ended in the round-robin stage, a step back from their semi-final appearance in 1997. Clare Connor captained the side, and all seven of their matches were played in Lincoln, at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval and Lincoln Green. The campaign began well with a 140-run win over the Netherlands, England making 256/3, but South Africa then chased down 144 to win by 5 wickets.

A tight contest against India followed, England being bowled out for 147 in reply to 155/7 to lose by 8 runs. Ireland were dismissed for 103 and beaten by 8 wickets, before Australia made 190/7 and won by 54 runs. England beat Sri Lanka by 105 runs after posting 242/4, but their final match brought a 93-run defeat by hosts New Zealand, who made 238/8 and bowled England out for 145. Three wins and four defeats were not enough to progress beyond the group stage.
