How England performed
England became T20 World Cup champions for the second time at the 2022 tournament in Australia, a year after a semi-final exit, with Jos Buttler as captain and Matthew Mott as head coach. The Super 12 campaign was far from straightforward. Afghanistan were beaten by 5 wickets in Perth, but Ireland won by 5 runs under the DLS method at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, with England on 105/5 after 14.3 overs in reply to 157. The match against Australia at the same ground was abandoned. England then beat New Zealand by 20 runs at The Gabba after making 179/6, and edged past Sri Lanka by 4 wickets in Sydney with two balls remaining to reach the semi-finals.
In Adelaide, India made 168/6 and England reached 170/0 in 16 overs to win by 10 wickets. The final against Pakistan was back at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where Pakistan were restricted to 137/8 and England reached 138/5 in 19 overs to win by 5 wickets and take the title.
