England: Super 8

How England performed

England's first T20 World Cup campaign, staged in South Africa in 2007, brought only one win from five matches under captain Paul Collingwood. Group B began with a 50-run victory over Zimbabwe at Newlands, where England made 188/9. The next day, at the same ground, Australia dismissed England for 135 and reached their target in 14.5 overs to win by 8 wickets, but England still progressed to the Super 8 stage.

The second phase proved a run of near misses. Hosts South Africa won by 19 runs at Newlands, restricting England to 135/7 in pursuit of 155. Moving to Kingsmead in Durban, England lost to New Zealand by 5 runs, finishing on 159/8 chasing 165, and then to India by 18 runs after India had posted 218/4; England's reply of 200/6 fell short. Three Super 8 defeats meant England went out at that stage with one win and four losses.
