England: Semi-finals

How England performed

Eoin Morgan's England, with Chris Silverwood as head coach, made a strong start to the 2021 T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. Their Super 12 Group 1 campaign opened in Dubai with West Indies dismissed for 55 and England winning by 6 wickets in 8.2 overs. Bangladesh were beaten by 8 wickets in Abu Dhabi, and Australia were bowled out for 125 in Dubai before England reached their target in 11.4 overs, again winning by 8 wickets. A 26-run win over Sri Lanka in Sharjah made it four from four, and although South Africa won the final group match by 10 runs, England progressed to the semi-finals.

The semi-final against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi ended their run. England made 166/4 from their 20 overs, but New Zealand reached 167/5 with an over to spare to win by 5 wickets. Having been runners-up in 2016, England went out in the last four with four wins and two defeats.
