England: Runners-up

How England performed

England reached the final of the 2016 T20 World Cup in India, a marked improvement on their Super 10 exit two years earlier, under captain Eoin Morgan and head coach Trevor Bayliss. Their Super 10 campaign began with a 6-wicket defeat by West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium, but England responded at the same venue by chasing South Africa's 229/4, reaching 230/8 with two balls to spare to win by 2 wickets. Victories over Afghanistan by 15 runs and Sri Lanka by 10 runs, both in Delhi, completed the group.

In the semi-final at the Feroz Shah Kotla, New Zealand were held to 153/8 and England won by 7 wickets in 17.1 overs. The final against West Indies at Eden Gardens was decided late: England made 155/9 and West Indies reached 161/6 with two balls remaining to win by 4 wickets. England finished as runners-up with four wins and two defeats, both of them against West Indies.
