England: Pool stage

How England performed

The 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand was a difficult tournament for England, who failed to emerge from Pool A after reaching the quarter-finals in 2011. Eoin Morgan was captain and Peter Moores head coach. The campaign began with a 111-run defeat by Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where England were dismissed for 231 in reply to 342/9. In Wellington, New Zealand bowled England out for 123 and needed just 12.2 overs to win by 8 wickets.

A 119-run victory over Scotland in Christchurch offered some relief, but Sri Lanka chased down England's 309/6 for the loss of only one wicket to win by 9 wickets, again in Wellington. A fourth defeat followed in Adelaide, where Bangladesh made 275/7 and dismissed England for 260 to win by 15 runs. England closed with a 9-wicket win over Afghanistan in Sydney on the D/L method, finishing with two wins and four defeats.
