Nations League

England: 3rd in League A Group 2

How England performed

England opened their 2020–21 Nations League campaign in League A Group 2 with a 1–0 win over Iceland in Reykjavík, Sterling converting a stoppage-time penalty, and followed it with a goalless draw against Denmark in Copenhagen. The best result came at Wembley in October, when Rashford's penalty and a goal from Mount overturned Lukaku's early spot-kick to beat Belgium 2–1.

The momentum did not last. Three days later Denmark won 1–0 at Wembley through an Eriksen penalty, and in November Belgium won 2–0 at Den Dreef in Leuven, with both goals coming within 23 minutes. A 4–0 win over Iceland at Wembley, with goals from Rice, Mount and Foden, who scored twice, closed the group. England finished third with three wins, a draw and two defeats, scoring seven goals and conceding four, a step down from the third place they had taken at the League A Finals in 2018–19.
