England: Runners-up

How England performed

England bounced back from a group-stage exit in 2010 to reach the final of the 2012 Women's T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka, captained by Charlotte Edwards. All three Group A matches were played at Galle International Stadium, and all were won: Pakistan by 43 runs after England made 133/6, India by 9 wickets in 17.1 overs, and Australia by 7 wickets as England chased 145 with 11 balls to spare.

In the semi-final at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, New Zealand were restricted to 93/8 and England won by 7 wickets in 17.2 overs. The final, at the same ground, brought a second meeting with Australia and a much tighter contest. Australia made 142/4, and England finished on 138/9 to lose by 4 runs. Four wins and one defeat left England as runners-up, their only loss of the tournament coming in the final.
