England: Pool stage
How England performed
England hosted the 2015 Rugby World Cup, with Stuart Lancaster as head coach and Chris Robshaw as captain. The campaign opened at Twickenham on 18 September with a 35–11 win over Fiji, but the next two pool matches, also at Twickenham, both ended in defeat: Wales won 28–25 and Australia won 33–13.
England did not progress beyond the pool stage. Their last match, against Uruguay at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester on 10 October, ended in a 60–3 win, leaving them with two wins and two defeats from four matches. They scored 133 points and conceded 75 across the four matches, with both defeats coming at Twickenham. It was a disappointing outcome compared with 2011, when England had reached the quarter-finals.
