How England performed

As in 1968–69, the series ended 0–0, and with all three Tests of 1976 drawn England retained the Ashes on home soil.

Declarations shaped the opening Test at Manchester, where Australia declared on 273/6 and England on 254/6, and Australia reached 128/6 in their second innings. Birmingham followed a similar pattern: England declared on 242/9 and 228/2, Australia on 236/7, and the visitors finished on 169/6. At The Oval, London, Australia made 379 against England's first-innings 134, but England made 326 second time round and the match was drawn.
